Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania's most diverse parks, set beneath the dramatic escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. The park is famous for its rare tree-climbing lions — a behaviour unique to this park and the Ishasha sector of Uganda. The alkaline lake attracts vast flocks of flamingos and over 400 species of birds, making it a world-class birdwatching destination. The park also harbours large herds of buffalo and elephant in its lush groundwater forest and open flood plains.
