Mahale Mountains National Park

Chimpanzees in a Pristine Forest Wilderness

Mahale Mountains National Park is one of the most remote and magical places in Africa. Located on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, the park is accessible only by boat or small aircraft — and this remoteness is a key part of its magic. The park protects the Mahale Mountains and their chimpanzee population (around 1,000 individuals), which have been habituated to human presence since the 1960s. The crystal-clear waters of Lake Tanganyika allow for swimming and snorkelling alongside the primate encounters.
