Pemba Island :

While most travelers visit to Zanzibar, few who visit the tranquil Pemba. This island does not lack, however, historical sites, or beautiful beaches. It is true, however, as public transport are non-existent outside the main road, fortunately, the Jeeps are beginning to proliferate to compensate for this lack. The oldest ruins Mkumbu Ras, are located on the peninsula west of Chake Chake, where Shirazi settled around 1200.

The coral reefs surrounding the island are considered by fans as one of the most beautiful dive sites in the world.

 

There are flights to Pemba from Zanzibar on Wednesdays. For conection by boat, crossing the most are regular between Zanzibar and Mkoani, south-west of the island.
